Former U.K. Ambassador to Yemen Edmund Fitton-Brown Joins CRTG Working Group

                                               – The CRTG Working Group is pleased to announce the appointment of Edmund Fitton-Brown, a distinguished former British diplomat, as a member of its newly launched Diplomatic Committee. In this role, Ambassador Fitton-Brown will leverage his extensive diplomatic experience to bolster CRTG’s efforts to advance global security.

Ambassador Edmund Fitton-Brown brings a wealth of expertise to the CRTG Working Group. A graduate in History from Cambridge University, he joined the British Foreign Service in 1984. His career included significant postings in Finland, Egypt, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Italy, and the United Arab Emirates, culminating in his role as UK Ambassador to Yemen from 2015 to 2017. Fluent in Arabic, Finnish, and Italian, he is renowned for his specialization in Middle Eastern affairs and counter-terrorism. In 2017, Fitton-Brown transitioned to the United Nations as an Expert with the ISIL/Al-Qaida/Taliban Sanctions Monitoring Team, later serving as Coordinator from January 2018. Based in New York, he led the UN’s efforts in addressing the global threat of ISIL and Al-Qaida, frequently representing the organization at high-level conferences and in the media. Following the completion of his UN tenure in July 2022, Fitton-Brown relocated to Austin, Texas where he consults on counterterrorism, counter-extremism, and international security, with a focus on the Middle East, North Africa, and South-Central Asia. He holds advisory and fellowship positions with several prominent institutions, including the Counter Extremism Project, the Middle East Institute, The Soufan Center, and the Royal United Services Institute.

Ambassador Fitton-Brown's unparalleled expertise and strategic insights will greatly contribute to advancing the CRTG Working Group’s initiatives.
